How to complete the removal of Google Earth

I had an installation of Google Earth that never seemed to function properly, so some time ago I ran the Uninstall script I found within the Google Earth directories. I also ran some commands I found on various Ubuntu help pages that looked as if they might be relevant. I still have a Google Earth directory in my Home folder, with a sub folder (x264) and numerous folders below that. Can I just delete the top level directory, or are there other actions I should do?

Sorry Andrew,
Can't remember how I did the original install. Probably a downloadfrom the Google Earth website.

I notice that the uninstall I did has removed the icon from the launch bar., so there has been some effect.

Could it be that the files I have in the directory ( Home/Google-Earth/x264) are just the download files, in which case I can safely delete them.

Its certainly possible

Make sure your backups are OK

Open a terminal (CTRL+ALT+T) Enter the following command

-------------------------
dpkg -l | grep 'google'
------------------------

If this doesn't find any google-earth packages I would rename the folder and reboot. If after a day or so you see no problems then delete the folder. I suspect you have deleted the program and this folder is either the original download or configuration files that can now be removed

I did get some hits when I tried the grep 'google'. Do I need to take any action on them ?

I have renamed the folder as suggested and will delete if no ill effects.

I wouldn't worry about the second one It's google but not google-earth

You can get rid of the first if you wish. I don't think its causing any problems but it will free some space. The command would be

sudo apt-get purge googleearth-package

I've purged the package and deleted the directory, so all cleared up now.
