VLC media player leaves broken packages when uninstall using synaptic manager

Asked by drmayuraa

 I'm using UBUNTU 8.10.
VLC media player was functioning initially without problem. Don't know how, suddenly whenever i open VLC, automatically it tries to open .CHM files pdf files. and also when i click Places/home folder ,the folders are not opening instead VLC is running. it runs like i above mentioned.
Though it opens music and video files with difficult manouvering..
I uninstalled it completely using Synaptic Package manager and then re installed it thinking that it may solve the issue but nope ! same problem persists.. even after several times repeating it.
TOTEM and M Player doesn't doesn't opens all files like VLC.
Is there a way to solve this problem.

OK, you did something lately that messed up VLC.
Reinstall what ever you uninstalled.
Use "ADD/REMOVE to uninstall VLC.
locate the VLC folder on your system and delete it.
Reinstall VLC using ADD/REMOVE.

this will clear out any corrupted data you have in the VLC folder.
