Install the below packages:

dictd: It is a dictionary database server of sorts.
dict-gcide: It is a comprehensive free English dictionary.
dict-wn: It is also an dictionary with up-to-date definitions.

Install the other dictionary packages if you want to use. Search in the Synaptic under dict. If you want the Thesaurus, then install the “dict-moby-thesaurus” package.

Then, click on Applications and then click on Dictionary. It will open the Gnome-Dictionary. Then, click on Edit and select Preferences. Then, change the server to localhost and change the Database to “Search all databases”. Then, change the order in which the definitions should appear.
