openinig files in ubuntu 9.04 by using gnome terminal

I would like to open files, pics, videos by using gnome terminal. How can I do that? And can I surf on the internet by using terminal? If yes how?

You can either type the name of the program you want to use to open it and then (generally) the path to the file you wish to open, or use "gnome-open" to open the file with whatever the default program for that file is in gnome.

As for surfing the Internet, you can launch firefox from the terminal just like any other program, or there are a few text-mode browsers you can install/use instead if you prefer a non-graphical browser (some sites are hard to work with using text-only browsers, though). Examples are links and lynx.
