How do I find a purchased game in Ubuntu?

Asked by Carol Lecuyer

I am new at Ubuntu and the terminology is greek to me. I had purchased games from GameHouse and now am trying to run them in Ubuntu. It has downloaded them for me and placed the shortcut on my desktop when I attempt to open it I get a list of programs to run them in. When I chose one it stated it is in a bin file then I open that and it says it is in the Parent folder.
Where is the Parent folder and how do I open and run the games. They are .exe installers and believe they have to be .deb files. Can I change them over?
I am running an 8.04 system. Anyone answering me will have to give me step-by-step instructions as I am lost in this new system. Thanks a lot!

Hi Carol!

What kind of games are you writing about? Windows or Linux ones?

Remember, in case you purchased a windows game, it won't work on Ubuntu... unless you try wine or virtualized Windows.

I had purchased games from Windows GameHouse. I was trying to run them but you just answered my question. I cannot run them on Ubuntu. How do I try wine? Can you instruct me step by step to do this?
Appreciate this. Also, I tried printing coupons from a windows site and that wouldn't work either.
Thanks
carol

To run wine, you need to go to Applications->Add/Remove then in the upper right corner type "wine" (no quotes needed) check it, then click apply.
After this you should have wine installed, so you may be able to run your windows applications by double clicking on them.
Have in mind that wine in not 100% finished yet, so it's not completely flawless.
Also, the package in the Ubuntu repositories is the stable version, if it doesn't work you could use the testing version (www.winehq.org, it's as easy as the other version), it isn't as stable but it have some new features.

Can you help with this problem?
