Byobu only shows 21 profiles - how can I show more?

Asked by Gerrit le Roux

I am very impressed with Byobu. I work on LOADS of different servers, and I execute a script to ssh me to the relevant server.

When I created my 22nd profile, I could not see it on the drop down menu: File -> Open Terminal or File -> Open Tab.

Is there a setting somewhere where I can increase that number? It is numbered from 0-9 and then A-K, where it stops.

Is there a config file that I can change?

Also, I decided to delete some of my not-so-freqeuntly-used profiles, and although the Delete button is there, it has no effect.

I upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 ( on a 32-bit Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop ), so Byobu was already installed when I did the upgrade.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean by "22nd profile" here. Can you
attach a screen shot?

Hi Dustin

Thanks for your reply.

I created more than 21 different profiles, but from the screen shot I
attached, you can see only 21 are displayed when clicking on the menu ->
File -> Open Tab. Each one of my profiles will log me into a different
remote server ( as I use the functionality to execute a different script
for each profile, that would use ssh to log me in ) , but I need to access
about 30 profiles, but only 21 are displayed from the menu drop down.

Also, If I use ( from the menu again ) Edit -> Profile and try to Delete a
profile, it just ignores me. I thought I would replace some of my less
frequently used profile with ones that I use more often.

I am quite happy to edit the profile config file, but not sure how it
works, I looked inside the .profile subdirectory ( under my home) but
couldn't really find the configuration for my profiles - so any information
or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Gerrit le Roux

Gerrit,

Okay, your question is actually about gnome-terminal, and not byobu itself. Byobu is a program that runs inside of gnome-terminal typically. The Edit -> Profile functionality is provided by gnome-terminal.

You could post a request at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/ about increasing profile size, but using so much profile is quite unusual.

You could also file a bug report as a feature request for this. If you want to do that, then please make sure to read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully first, then search to see if anyone else has already filed such a bug, then run "ubuntu-bug gnome-terminal". Make sure that your description is complete and self-contained so that it's not necessary for Ubuntu developers to refer to this question, in order to fully understand and appreciate your request. Still, you should link the bug (or a bug you find, if someone else has already filed a feature request for this) to this question using "Link existing bug" on this question page.

If you post on http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com and also file a bug, then the Brainstorm page and the Launchpad bug page should contain links that point to each other, too.

Can you help with this problem?
