CPU running at 100%

Just installed Gnome 2.30.0 build date 31/03/10

As the header sayes my CPU is running at 100% all the time and when I look in system monitor there is no indication what is using the 100% CPU.

My PC is.
Aspire PC AMD Semperon 64 3000 + FSB 800Mhz DDR2 Ram 2Mb.

try reboot or in terminal type top
Top will list system process usage from most to least, from top to bottom.

You can kill a process using top by pressing the letter k on you keyboard and entering the process id number or PID.

The processes that seems to be most problematic for PowerPC users is a service called mouseemu. If mouseemu is the process that is causing you trouble, you can just remove the package altogether
sudo apt-get remove mouseemu

Thanks for the reply, I did what you suggested and found not mouseemu but xorg which seems to be hoging the CPU by as much as 10-12%. At the top of the screen ware it says up time and user plus many other things it lists the users as being 2 when I am the only one using the PC.

i have amd 64 4000+ same ram nvidia 6150 se video and it runs 10- 14 % . so that is not your problem . but if you want to test it there set display to none at system -preference - appearance - visual effects

i run this test top on mine system and 2 users is ok ! that you and the root system .
