"disk has many bad sectors" deleted unused files in computer janitor and can't get them back

I apologize for my ignorance, but I am new to Ubuntu (hate windows) and I really want to get this. I think if I can restore the files I deleted with computer janitor that my hard disk is fine but I don't know how to do that. My "reallocated sector count" is where the error is. I really appreciate your help.

 first off how many bad sectors do you have ? i have seven on mine . been that way awhile . the computer janitor only shows old and unneeded stuff. bad sectors are places on the hdd that the nano coating has gone bad and can not be wrote to any more. my old hdd had 36 bad sectores and it run fine tell the 9 year old processor went out, then i give up and got this pc . depending on the amount of hdd you have ,and the amount of bad sectors you may just need to keep a watch on them..

Modern harddrives are using automated error recovery methods to react if a sector does not work any more.
They also have some reserve sectors which will be used instead of the failed.
The operating system is not directly aware of the failure if the drive can recover itself.
If the OS notices the failure the error is more severe. In this case I recommend to replace the HDD of (at least) keep recent backups of your data).
Experienced user can also use smartctl to see the HDDs internal error log or run SMART tests.

i only have one bad sector. the computer functions well otherwise, but i also lost some ubuntu graphics which makes me think that i deleted something that i shouldn't have.

 what graphic do you have ? nvidia,ati, or just the basic that installed with ubuntu .
