Do I need to run tracker on an NTFS external disk?

Asked by bsalem

I.ve noticed that since upgrading to U 11.10 that an external, and slow, NTFS disk is constantly busy. Top shows that the resource hogs are the tracker programs, According to the man pages this family of programs collects "metadata" on files, and BTW fills up your home dir with the cache, yet none of these pages explais how the metadata s used.

How can I turn off tracker for that device?

Is there a good FAQ justifying tracker?

Can tracker be disabled?

This issue can be closed. The disk stopped being busy. I assume that this was just due to the fresh install on the system and tracker doing its initial collection of metadata.
