Gnome 3 (11.10 oneiric alpha 1 ) crashes

Asked by Gh0stRyd3r

I am not sure if there is an issue with my install or the gnome-shell install for Gnome 3 for 11.10. I have upgraded from 11.04 and from the desktop disk (64 bit) each time I get a half upgrades that requires 2-3 additional partial upgrades to get 11.10 stable in unity or unity 2d. I installed gnome-shell and on initial login I get the status bar and no matter what I do after 20 seconds or two attempts to open applications it will just show the desktop background and nothing else. I can right click to get the sub-menus but only change background will show anything. I have to ctrl+alt+delete to get a log off to go back to unity. I am not sure what I am missing or what is failing in this process.

I am running a Dell 745 with the Gallium 0.4 on ATI RV515 card. Haven't had an issue with it before but not sure if that is even the issue.

Log a bug. Oneiric is only Alpha1. There is MONTHS of development to come and you will get a lot of issues before release date

Before reporting the bug, please read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs carefully. Since this problem may be due to a crash, I also recommend that you enable Apport (which is not yet enabled by default in installed Oneiric systems)--see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport.

I will defiantly turn on airport but I am not sure this is a crash that the system recognizes to trigger a bug report. It acts more like the task bar is auto hiding and won't come back. I understand that this is an Alpha beta and there will be a lot of bugs I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong or missed a package since there were so many others that were showing how to do it.

Can you help with this problem?
