Ubuntu 10.04 power management

Asked by Fabian Pache

Greetings,

I am using a DELL XPS M1330 and ever since I updated to 10.4 from the last LTS(8.4 is I remember correctly), no aspect of powermanagement works anymore.

Standby is permanent: If sleep is activated by triggering it from keyboard hotkey or by automatic timeout there is no way of waking the system up again.
Hibernation does not shut down the machine: it seems like the hibernation mode is started. Screen goes blank, harddisk activity follows but the power stays on. After turning the power off manually the hibernation image is not used to recover but a normal boot occurs

Thanks for any hints on fixing this (including which current Ubuntu version actually works)

Mobile GM965 is correctly detected. I guess the two entries are for the lid screen and the (disconnected) HDMI port.

Just had variation of the error track:
Hibernation was triggered, written to disk and the system turned off as expected. However rebooting did not recover the state and just ended with a black screen. After turning off the machine completely the next boot ran as usual, without accessing the hibernation state

so the bottom line is that it doesn't work anymore and my option would be to downgrade to 7.x
Thanks anyway
