deleted the gnome top panel, can't get the default panel back (ubuntu)

I accidentally deleted the gnome top panel and I'd like the default one back. unfortunately I don't know how to do this. if you could help me get it back, I'd be very grateful, because I really don't want to re-install linux ubuntu 6.10 (the one that was released in june I think) only for this stupid mistake I made. I tried making a new panel, but it came out blank without all the default thingies on it, and I really liked the default one. adding new things also doesn't work, because some of the default things are not on the list.
ps. I'm quite new to linux, so please consider that when answering and forgive my stupidity. big-big thanks!
