How do I Add network applet on top panel so I can see if my network is connected or not?

Which GUI do you use: Gnome 2 (Ubuntu Classic, like 10.10) or Unity (with a left launchpad) ?
In first case, go to top menu, right click and then "Add to dashboard", then search Network widget.

I tried as you suggested above, but I don't have a Network widget on my add to panel list.
I use Ubuntu 10.04

System->Preference->Startup / Network Manager
Check service is started.
