Probbably deleted all my files saved in Vista, is there a way I can check/recover them?

Asked by sarahbrin

When installing Ubuntu, all my files saved on my previous Vista system disappeared. Also, my sound will no longer work. Is there a way I can find/recover my files? How can I get Vista back?

I have an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC.

Please help! I was working on a draft of my senior thesis! I really appreciate your input.

Hi,

When installing Ubuntu, did you install it into the free space on your drive, or did you instruct it to utilise the full drive?

If you installed into the free space on your drive, your previous Vista installation should still be intact and you should be able to select it from the boot menu when you start your PC. However, if you installed Ubuntu onto the whole drive it will have overwritten Vista and in order to restore Vista you will need to use the system disk provided by your computer manufacturer.

Good luck!

Chris
