Please reboot and go to Recovery Mode.

Then choose 'root shell'.

Then type:
chown bob:bob /home/bob/.ICEauthority
chmod 600 /home/bob/.ICEauthority
exit

## Replace 'bob' with your username

btw. it can happen when a user runs a GUI with 'sudo' instead of 'gksudo'.

IM also having the same prob. "Could not update ICEauthority file /home/username/.ICEauthority"

The above fix is not working for me. i did it but still this appears.

and at the same time sound of my laptop stopped working. i donno if these two r related, but wanted to tel u as it happened together and might help deciding whats happened.
When i try to open sound configuration it says "Waiting for sound system for respond".
And there is no sound after i log in. Login screen does have sound.

help needed
and im a noob

I need to add that I'm having this same problem. On a Pentium 4 machine... I was doing fine until I ran out of hard drive space, and then things have not been right about this. The above suggestions to fix did not work, at all.

Can you help with this problem?
