I am on ubuntu 13.10, my computer is a HP DC5750, 3.0 ghz dual core AMD 64bit x2, 8 gig ram. The connection drops and the indicator says that internet is still connected. When I click on the wireless icon and then click disconnect, it says it disconnected, then I click for it to reconnect but it doesnt. It says disconnected. I have to reboot the computer at that point and many times that doesnt work.

Ihave bought everyother wireless usb adaptor at walmart in my small town and either the connection issues were worse or the device didnt work, I had to use ndiswrapper for all the other usb cards except this one. This is the only one that had a native linux driver. Sorry if this is a duplicate.

When the connection drops can you ping your router's internal IP?
When it drops can you ping 8.8.8.8?

Thanks

i would suggest you find from synaptic package named network-manager,reinstall it ,also install wicd and then plug in your pc, reboot and from recovery mode ENABLE NETWORKING.then boot and when you find problem from command line, type: sudo rfkill unblock wifi and then type sudo rfkill restart network-manager

Your Terminal output shows the following issues:

1)

eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.

                    ESSID:"linksys"
                    Frequency:2.422 GHz (Channel 3)
                    ESSID:"medialink"
                    Frequency:2.422 GHz (Channel 3)
                    ESSID:"NETGEAR65"
                    Frequency:2.432 GHz (Channel 5)
                    ESSID:"memejean3 a"
                    Frequency:2.457 GHz (Channel 10)

In order to avoid wireless interference from other wireless access points, please log into the website of your wireless router using a web browser and change the wireless transmission channel to channel 8.

2)

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
up /sbin/wondershaper wlan2 40960 10240
down /sbin/wondershaper clear wlan2
up /sbin/wondershaper wlan1 40960 10240
down /sbin/wondershaper clear wlan1

Your /etc/network/interfaces contains too many configuration lines.

Please delete all the lines in the /etc/network/interfaces file and ONLY add the following lines:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

If you do not change this, the NetworkManager GUI will probably not work correctly.

3)

wlan3 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"linksys" Nickname:"rtl_wifi"
          Mode:Managed Frequency:2.422 GHz Access Point: 00:1C:10:35:51:36
          Bit Rate:135 Mb/s Sensitivity:0/0
          Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:off

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

The bit rate of 135 Mb/s is probably too high. In order to stabilize your wireless connection, I suggest logging into your wireless router and forcing the router to use Wireless-G (54 Mbps) connection speeds.

In order to avoid possible DNS server connection issues, try adding the following DNS IP address into your wireless router and into the NetworkManager GUI:

8.8.8.8

If you tackle and fix all 4 issues above, then the wireless issues may go away...

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask vanquishedangel for more information if necessary.
