Wifi Disconnects
I have Acer Aspire 5580 and have been using Ubuntu from Version 9.04, I had this issue with WiFi getting disconnected after every two mins in 9.04 the problem continued in 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10
When I upgraded to 11.04 the issue got resolved and then it worked fine with 11.10 also.
When I upgraded to 12.04 the problem resurfaced, so I did not upgrade now I wanted to try out 12.10 and I have the same issue with 12.10.
I think there shoudl be a solution to this issue as my wifi worked perfectly with 11.04 and 11.10 and it still works good with 11.10.
Can some one help me getting it working on 12.10.

I remember using LAN Cable when I migrated to Ubuntu from Windows XP to Ubuntu 9.04, and cursed that I have a Acer Laptop that has this problem, I tested HP Laptop that worked fine with Ubuntu 9.04.
As I Upgraded to 11.04 the isue got resolved automatecally, so something changed with this version that worked fine for me till I upgraded to 12.04.
I have tested the issue with Install CD, the issue resurfaced in 12.04 and workes fine with 11.10.
I have tried the above command and still the issue is same, wifi disconnects regularly.
As I use PPTP VPN to connect to office network, this is very irritating.
I hope to get a solution to this issue or I will have to downgrade to 11.10.

Try changing the wireless transmission channel on your wireless router to channel 8.
Also temporarily disable encryption on your wireless router (for troubleshooting purposes).
Also install wicd as a replacement for NetworkManager.
You can install wicd using this command and using a wired Internet connection:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install wicd
In the wicd network manager, choose wlan0 as wireless interface name.
Then retest wireless using wicd.
If that does not help, I suggest testing the 64-bit version of the v3.8-rc2-raring kernel which you can get using these commands:
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-
Then reboot and retest wireless using the 3.8.0-030800rc2

Before you reply to my problem, please try to understand that I hade the same problem with 9.04 / 9.10 and same issue with
10.04 and 10.10
When I upgraded to 11.04 the issue got resolved and then it worked fine with 11.10 also.
When I upgraded to 12.04 the problem resurfaced, so I had to downgrade.
Now 13.04 now 13.10 also has the same issue so I have to downgrade to 11.04.
There must be something correct with 11.04, how can I identify the prblem and resolve it, it has been morethan 4 years now that my issue is unresolved.

As I am unable to work with 13.10 I am going to downgrade to 11.10.
Please advice if I could extract something / some settings from 11.10 where WiFi works fine and bring the same settings to 13.10 or any new version so that my WiFi works as it worked fine in 11.10.
