When resume from suspend or hibernate ethernet network desapears

Asked by serguei_kp

Hello, I've tested two configurations to find out how to resolve this problem, but I'm not succeeded, here they are :

Ubuntu configuration 1 :
- Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS,
- software RAID 1 mirror - installed with alternate CD
- mother board Asus p8z77-v LX
- processor intel i3

Ubuntu configuration 2 :
- Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS,
- fake RAID 1 mirror - installed with Desktop CD
- mother board Asus p8z77-v LX
- processor intel i3

Description of problem :
While putting in to the suspend or hibernate mode working well, when trying to resume from one of this states the system starts :
- rebooting 3 times then it takes 5 or 10 minutes to boot up the system
- after such painful booting the wire LAN disappears! I'have to activate LAN and then reboot the system normally to make LAN reappear;

Thank you in advance for your help.

P.S. I've got the same Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS on my laptop as server (but no raid 1 on it) the suspend and hibernate resume works without problem;

sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a; uname -a

Thanks

The laptop as a server may work but it has absolutely zero bearing on the other systems. It has entirely different hardware.

The 8168B driver is rather bit^W unstable, espeacially on older Ubuntu versions live Lucid.
You should consider updating to 12.04 or compiling the driver from source.

The linked bug reports gives some hints.

After suspend, try:

sudo modprobe -r
sudo modprobe r8169

Does the ethernet then start working?

After entering in suspend mode it was like usually
- 3 times rebooting (or something like that)
- then approximatively 5 minutes waiting with black screen
- then system starts with no ethernet, I've made like you sad :

serguei@linux-big-erp:~$ sudo modprobe -r
[sudo] password for serguei:
Usage: modprobe [-v] [-V] [-C config-file] [-d <dirname> ] [-n] [-i] [-q] [-b] [-o <modname>] [ --dump-modversions ] <modname> [parameters...]
modprobe -r [-n] [-i] [-v] <modulename> ...
modprobe -l -t <dirname> [ -a <modulename> ...]
serguei@linux-big-erp:~$ sudo modprobe r8169
serguei@linux-big-erp:~$

but with no changes;
If this command is expected to install new driver, I didn't see any installation processing;

Unfortunately I'have to use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS because I want to install OpenERP server on it, and it is compatible only with 8.04, 9.10 and 10.04 versions of Ubuntu;

It worked when I booted normally, but after entering and resuming from suspend it does not work.

It became even worse, I've lost the ethernet even after rebooting.

May be the problem is in the RAID 1 dysfunction ?
Tomorrow I will install the OS on the no RAID hard drive, and will see if it will reproduce the same problem.

No, it's not a RAID 1 problem, the same behaviour of the computer when I installed 10.04 on the only one hard drive;

That's why I do not want to use the ethernet anymore I read about some very valid facts about it on https://scentdoor.com/ I mean you can use the better service by taking some experts help.

Can you help with this problem?
