installed 12.04 network is not connecting to wire network

I have been betting my head agents the wall for 5 days now. have read to much about this and still wont work. I have installed 12.04 into a used Hp compaq dc 7100 cmt. plug in lan cable into the computer and it says network disconnected. from what I understand on the things I've read, it's not getting the address right, maybe it's just a guess (hardware address 00:16:35:78:47:bb) I know the lan cable is working I can get on the net with the old computer. (old computer is using device MAC address; Auto eth0 00:11:11:E6:4F:FE)
I have put this address into the newer HP and it shows last used (minutes ago) but no Internet sever not found,
I tried the hardware address it says never.
HELP please I feel and think this should be easy to fix. But I just don't know.

plug in a NIC card to see if it was the port but still not connected to the Internet. but network connection 1 &2 says last used 3 minutes ago. boy am I at a lost on this one

I did more reading and I've found out that I may need to set the, DHCP to assign a addresses for the newer computer. something I have no clue about, I just thought I could plug it in and it would work. can anyone tell me what to do thank you.

The inet6 business indicates you are using ipv6, not the usual ipv4 -- is that what you really want? Try turning off ipv6, and things may start working. Click on the networkmanager icon, select edit connections, select wired, select your connection, select the ipv6 tab, and select the "ignore" from the dropdown list. Uncheck the connect automatically just to be sure. Then check on the ipv4 tab, and make sure you have DHCP selected (NOT the DHCP addresses only). Check the "available to all uses", and "connect automatically" boxes, and save.

 I have no clue what that means or what it will do. I just want it to work and get on the net.
I did everything you said even restarted no server found, nice try, you are the first one this week that has come up with something to try. if you want to see everything about this look at my last 4 questions. #209083, #209306, #209387, #209475 I keep asking because actionparsnip just stops chatting and never give a answer.

I found the fix turn off modem and unplug the power cord. Wait a minute plug power back in. it's the modem this model needs to reset for other computers to work off it.
