new install 12.04 LTS will not connect to internet

Asked by thewilbob@comcast.net

I have a new 12.04 LTS installed but it will not connect to the internet. My 9.10 ISO disk boots and goes online perfectly. What do I need to do to get 12.04 to go on line to Comcast?

I have solved my issue thusly: reinstall 9.10 native (it was half again faster than 12.04 native when 9.10 was booted from disk)

Nothing was available from the software center but I was able to upgrade to 10.4. Now I've got a desktop that doesn't look like it came from MTV and a stable system otherwise.

I now depart from the the update train.
