Can't use ZTE mf820d 4g modem with Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2

Asked by Lars

Recently I uppgraded my Telia mobile broadband to 4g and my question is, if ZTE mf820d, which is a 4g mobile broadband modem should work with Ubuntu 12.04. Tried to use it with Ubuntu 12.04 Alpha 2, but it won't work. The network manager doesn't seem to find it.

I guess these fairly new kernel commits are necessary:

I see that the modem is not switched from driver CD to modem mode. Which version of usb-modeswitch-data do you have? What is the output of "apt-cache policy usb-modeswitch-data"?

Have you tried again using beta1 or the latest updates?

I successfully connected using the modem with fully updated 12.04, so the solution is to either install the daily images or the latest beta and install all updates.

When Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 was realesed I installed it on my laptop to try it out and with the latest updates including the latest kernel my mobile broadband modem ZTE mf820d is now working.

Thanks for all the help!
