ubuntu 9.04 will not browse or update

i recently installed 9.04 on an hp nx6110 laptop
i tried to update it or install the kkp dial- up tool so i could use it with-out the wi-fi
it will connect to a wireless network but nothing else
is 9.04 not supported anymore ? it was a disc i have used before and successfully upgraded to 10.04 on my desk-top

Unfortunately it's no longer supported, see here the supported versions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_%28operating_system%29#Releases

So I strongly suggest you to download a new supported version and install it.

after posting question i visited ubuntu home page and confirmed my
suspicions and began downloading 11.10
