folloeup on terminal read out concerning problem with internal wireless connection recognition
I did some follow up trouble shooting on my problem with my Dell 1390 internal wifi card and its non functionality after upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04.
With 10.10 both connections worked fine and after upgrade, only auto ethernet is working.
There is no place to enable wireless connection.
It is as if my internal wifi no longer exists.
I am enclosing a shot of the terminal read out as I was instructed to do and the install of this version was done, in a 2 step process starting with 10.04, then 10.10 and then 11.04.
No problems with network connections until 11.04.
I have a Dell 1520 Inspiron lap top 64 bit os with 11.04 running beside windows 7 premium.
Controller is a BCM 4400 wlan.
In windows my wireless shows up as a Dell 1390 wireless mini card I believe.
I have a cable modem, I have reset that, no luck.
No matter how screwed up this wifi issue is in Ubuntu, both wired and wireless connections never cease to be recognized with Windows.
I had installed 11.04 on another partition, which I have not removed yet.
Partition is sda/6.
In the process of troubleshooting my wireless connection at that point, I also lost my auto ethernet connection also.
I made an Iso disk, installed 10.04, upgraded to 10.10 and then to 11.04 on another partition.
Once I get this problem solved, I am planning on deleting the first version of 11.04 and keeping the second.
Lastly, when upgrading to 11.04 I took careful notes on how to re-install/
upgrade.
I did not have much luck with that either.
It seems with 11.04 everything was supposed to be more streamlined and easy to understand.
Just as one other example: I was not thrilled with Libre, I looked through the software packages and found Gnu office and installed it.
When I went in to find the Suite in office Apps, it was not there even though it showed as installed.
I like the idea of open source and I know Ubuntu, if nothing else is more stable, it starts faster and it has many features I am sure I have not discovered yet.
When I had a support contract, the techs were of great help and I am not able to pay for tech support right now.
This is all more than you need to know and as I am finally finishing this novel, the program froze which has happened a couple of times resulting in a loss of data.
Yes, I am just about through complaining.
There seems to be very little useful information I have found on 11.04 as opposed to earlier versions.
The April release date i am sure has something to do with that.
I have 2 extensive books on Ubuntu and they do not begin to cover many technical issues.
See what you can find out about this problem, and if there is a good source for learning terminal commands, could you pass that along also?
Sorry for the length, I know you are busy as am I.
Here are the terminal read outs.
I just want this version to work.Hit http://
