How to get an internet connection set up?

Asked by brandon james

Can someone give me a simple, plain english step-by-step guide on how to set up an internet connection in linus? I've just installed it about an hour ago and I went to preferences and network connections and it's wanting me to enter a bunch of details that I have no idea what are. I am wanting to connect to my wireless network.

if it is wired LAN cable internet connection, then open terminal & type:
sudo pppoeconf

Enter details. It will only ask for your username and password. Select all the next default values by clicking yes.
Once the connection is established (its better to restart the system after the connection is set for the 1st time), in future, you'll need the following 2 commands to turn your internet connection on & off...
to turn on: sudo pon dsl-provider
to turn off: sudo poff dsl-provider

Can you help with this problem?
