DHCP configuration failed during install

Asked by Lantos Szabi

When I installed Ubuntu Studio, i had an ethernet cable plugged in, but it was not detected and the dhcp configuration failed. It was an internet connection trough a proxy... it cannot be detected at install?
So i must setup now some networking. I constantly move with my laptop, so dhcp setup would be good, but dhcp can detect also for wireless and proxy?

Please answer what networking should I set up, and how? Please write it step by step because I am a beginner.

Thank you,

Francis

If you run:

sudo dhclient3 eth0

What is output?

Are you fully updated?

Get a connection in your usual way and run:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get upgrade; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

i made the update, upgrade and dist-upgrade,

but i still have the proxy data manually entered necessary for my current connection, in browser, network proxy, and wired connection.

when i move to an other wired connection , or wireless, should I delete this data?

can dhcp detect ip addresses also for wireless and proxy?

I believe you say you move your laptop , maybe it is a cable problem , have you tried the cable on another computer?

Or a different port on the interconnecting device (assuming it has more than one)

Can you help with this problem?
