After upgrade 7.10-8.04, Evolution ask passw for unblock keyring.

Asked by Slava

Evolution ask me password every time when it make request to mail-server (pop3, smtp), when I send or receive mail.

I don't used it (psw) for Evolution before this. When I start Keyring-manager it ask me password and then reply "Access denied to the keyring." K-m show me only 2 records (F9): login and session. But I don't see Evolution! I had not this problem in Ubuntu 7.10. It's not a passw for my e-mail box.

Hi I have this problem as well, have asked around but no real solution... seems you either have to type your password at log in or if you have atot log in you have to type it in when you open evolution....
Bhavani when I make the changes you suggest evolution asks me for the pop mail passwords I have for my email accounts and wants to save them and then the password keyring screen comes up and it is back to the origional problem again. having to type your password when starting evolution.

I also have this problem... but I must say, it only started about a week after I updated my system (including 'Evolution.' None of the boxes in the security box are checked. I have to 'deny' access to the request for a password for the 'keyring.' To be more specific the message I get is:

"Enter password for default Keyring to unlock. The application 'evolution' (usr/bin/evolution) wants access to the default Keyring but it is locked. Password_______________"

At which I click "deny" (it comes back for the same request about a total of two times, then goes away but I then get a request for my pop account password, even though, until now (about several weeks which I have been using Ubuntu 8.04) 'Evolution' has "remembered" my password.

This is too strange. I sure hope there is someone listening out in virtual email land that can be of some meaningful assistance... I'm starting to think of 'Thunderbird' ("Oh no, not that!).

HI Henry Peters
I left Evolution for this reason and went to thunderbird and lightning.... never looked back, I even managed to transfer my evolution mail details straight to thunderbird with no issues.... love the layout in this combo...

I may have solved MY problem here... though this situation still needs some clarifications... I changed my administrative password this morning... I launched 'Evolution' & when asked for Keyring password I typed in my OLD PASSWORD... & it accepted this quite quickly! Oi! So the question now for me is, when one changes ones administrative password, how does one make sure the whole system gets the word?

Thanks,

Henry
p.s., perhaps this question needs to move to another area, I do not really want to detract from the original question above. & direction here, would be appreciated.

Hi Kevin (& all),

As my last statement/question indicated, this may not be just an "Evolution" problem (of course, it may be, too... ), so I still wish to know about this security oddity, because to me, it (security) is an important feature of Linux.

& slightly off topic (I guess I brought it up, sorry 'bout that), I have used Thunderbird before, but the program (in Windows XP) seemed (to me) programmed a little to ready to judge things "junk" or "not authentic" (web sites), etc...

There is a move afoot to combine Eudora (which I have used for year on Mac & Windows) with T.B. which wouldn't work on XP for me (it was in beta) so maybe on Linux/Ubuntu it might be more advanced... I just may give it a try... (to compare, because, evidently 'Evolution' has now evolved to not hassle me for passwords I did not really understand (yay!).

That does seem a strange way to sort it??? I gave up on the program because I posted a similar question and did not get a workable answer...
TB was my way out and I too used eudora in Xp for a very long time but it became buggy and not supported so I changed to TB in XP as well... no issues there either... It is just in linux that I have bothered to make it work nicely for me by adding lightning and not tweaking any filter settings....
Sorry if we have hijacked this question ....

Can you help with this problem?
