When you last unplugged it from a system, did you use the safe removal feature before unplugging it from the system physically?

Right click the storage in Nautilus and you will see 'safe remove' or 'eject'

I suggest you plug the device into a Windows PC and run a full chkdsk. When it is done, use the safe remove feature in the system tray and then try it in Ubuntu.

Can you help with this problem?
