How can I add more space to my ubuntu drive?

I have installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS with 20 GB of hard disk, I want to add more space to it, and I have been updated my old version of ubuntu to 12.04 LTS online,

How can I add more space for my ubuntu in disks?

This depends of the partitioning schema you have.

You can resize the space with gparted tool.

Gparted tool included to the Live session of Ubuntu. You must boot from a Live USB/CD/DVD (anything you have) of Ubuntu and use the Gparted tool (CAREFULLY) to resize the partition with Ubuntu.

Assuming have space on an existing drive you may be able to expand it using GParted as described by Nick. If not you can add an additional drive. Many people have there home folder on a separate drive as it may be easier to back up or when upgrading.

If you decide to add an additional drive let us know and we can advise what you need to do to mount it.
