Audio Settings - Volume Control

Does Ubuntu have audio settings?

I can only control the volume of whatever I'm listening to or watching by using the controls of the software package that i'm using e.g. vlc, rhythmbox etc.

After searching all through the desktop menus etc, I cant seem to find volume control, or mic-in etc..

CLI would be: alsamixer
GUI (needs to be installed): gnome-alsamixer

Pulseaudio GUI: pavucontrol, padevchooser
