No artist art. Possible to set manually?

I'm using gmpc 11.8.16 on Crunchbang and have some pretty obscure artists whose artist art (not the album art) is not getting fetched by the metadata handler. Is there a way to set the art manually? I've tried embedding it in the ID3 tags, but it's not recognized.

Crunchbang is not supported here or in any of the Ubuntu support channels. Crunchbang's community is entirely selarate from Ubuntu's
