Upgrade GlusterFS to 3.4.x

Asked by John Mark

The version of GlusterFS currently shipping in Universe is out of date. What can we do to package later versions to be included in Ubuntu releases?

Thanks,

Perhaps this belongs in the Q&A, rather than a bug. How can we make sure that Ubuntu releases contain newer GlusterFS releases? For example, GlusterFS 3.4.x is now in Debian Sid, and GlusterFS 3.3 was released over a year ago.

Let us know what we need to do on the packaging front to make GlusterFS a more integral part of Ubuntu releases.

The choice of which packages make up a specific image is made by that project lead(s) by what seeds are selected. For instance, the Xubuntu community decides for Xubuntu. During the release cycle, the actual version to be included gets decide by developers and the release team.

So I would advise you to contact every and each one of the project lead(s):

I like also to see packages support for GlusterFS 3.4.1

The packages from ppa:semiosis/ubuntu-glusterfs-3.{3,4} work great. But with no support for GlusterFS 3.4 in Ubuntu, The qemu packages can not get GlusterFS support, if the Ubuntu Glusterfs packages does not get upgraded to 3.4.

So what has to be done, to get glusterfs 3.4 in Ubuntu? After this we can create a ticket at qemu to enable glusterfs.
Until then, I rebuild my qemu packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/+bug/1224517/comments/2
