2 files lost

I had 3 tabs open and must have shut down computer. Two of the files don't exist anymore and no backup to be found.

I am using Ubuntu, but was editing files on my Windows partition (.txt files). Is there some other place where they might be saved/backed up?

If you haven't found the file with the ~ at the end in the name (the backup of gedit) I think you have lost it.

Can you help with this problem?
