install AdobFlashPlayer only lets me use Maverick source, doesn't find repository (wrong path is used)

using instructions in Ubuntu 10.10 (i am only "trying" the OS on windows, i have not installed Ubuntu on my hard drive)

go to software center and search for Adobe flash

It comes up with a button that says 'More info'
Click on More Info
then 'Use this source', where the only source available is 'Maverick'
Click Use this source:
takes me to "can't find repository" window, with these details, as an example:

W:Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick-security/multiverse/binary-amd64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]

, W:Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/maverick-security/universe/binary-amd64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found [IP: 91.189.91.13 80]

check: my internet connection is working
when i go to those paths above, I find that the Maverick folders are off. I do find what i think it's looking for here, but i can't change the path (or maybe someone can show me contact <email address hidden>):

As you can see from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases the Maverick Meerkat 10.10 release of Ubuntu as been declared end of life by April last year. That means that support has ended, and the repositories for downloading packages have been removed.

If you want to try Ubuntu you should use the CD/DVD for a current and supported release. You can download them from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop

The reason this is not working is that you have an old no-longer supported version of Ubuntu. Support for Maverick ended in April last year. I suggest you try an up to date version either 12.04 or 12.10. 12.10 is the latest version and is supported till April next year. While 12.04 is a long term stable release and is supported till April 2017.

If you have a modern PC then you can use Ubuntu the download is here

If you have an older machine you may find Ubuntu slow in which case try Xubuntu. The desktop in Xubuntu is similar to the desktop as it was in 10.04 and 10.10 while the default desktop in Ubuntu has changed a lot. You can run both Ubuntu and Xubuntu from a CD/DVD or USB stick so you can try them both before installing anything. The Xubuntu download is here

By default neither Ubuntu nor Xubuntu will play flash. To make either play flash I recommend installing the restricted-extras package for your version see here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats
