Just installed firefox 3.6.7 for ubuntu and can't get flash to work. Help!!

Asked by Richard Gross

My update manager installed Firefox 3.6.7 which was fine. But now flash will not work on any site. Not sure what I am missing, I have tried upgrading my Ubuntu to 10.04 LTS in hopes that that might work. But nothing. Hopefully someone can help and suggest. If you know any answer please give me a step by step of what to do. I'm still a little new to Ubuntu and the learning curve is a little steep.

Thanks

Have you installed: ubuntu-restricted-extras ? This will install a bunch of useful stuff, including: flash-plugin.

Open Synaptic, and make sure that your software sources (in the menu "Settings") include all the repositories (multiverse, proprietary, etc). Search and install adobe-flashplugin..

Here is a place where you might want to visit.

http://theindexer.wordpress.com/2010/03/21/to-do-list-after-installing-ubuntu-10-04-aka-lucid-lynx/

DO NOT USE THERE JAVA......

If you ever need java do this

Terminal:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

Except by clicking F12...

flashplugin
sudo aptitude install gsfonts gsfonts-x11 flashplugin-nonfree

Did FF run during the update, then there could be some segfaults.
System administration -> log viewer
Search messages (ctrl+F) with segfault or libflashplayer.
Maybe simple shutdown of FF and reboot twice helps.

Or start from scratch, purge flash and reinstall. Make sure not to run different flash apps at the same time and close FF during the procedure.
