FireFox/3.0.6 crashes on Ubuntu/8.04

Asked by tazman34685

When I try to watch youtube, youtube fails to play any video starting from the beginning of a selected video. It does open up but start 3/4 of the way into the video.

How can I completely uninstall FireFox (any application really) from the computer and the reinstall (which I think I can do this part) ? Because when opening some other website Firefox just Crashes.

Thanks

To uninstall firefox, open Synaptic and search for firefox. I guess you shpuld find two files, called as firefox and firefox-3.0. Uninstall both of them.

Hope it helps.

I am going to trying that now, but will I have to restart or logout ? and Will this process allow me to install a lesser version of FireFox inplace of version3.0.6 which for me isn't too stable?

No, you don't have to restart the system or to log out. I'm not sure, if you can get a version earlier than 3.0. But if firefox doesn't work, you can install Opera or you can use the Konqueror.

Hi,
a downgrade isn't recommended because of security reasons. Hardy 8.04 is an LTS and I don't think it's a version problem of Firefox.
If you remove with Synaptic try a complete removal. Clean the cache of apt-get and reload the packages list to get all update notes.

My guess is a broken addon, hence I'd suggest to rename or remove .mozilla (hidden in your home/user) to gain a fresh configuration profile.

Before reinstalling Firefox make sure to remove also all flash apps and choose to run one flash app to avoid conflicts. Make a decision between nonfree and open source. Check correct versions for 32 or 64bit systems.
