Intel audio problems

Asked by sasquatch606

I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop and it recognized the wi-fi card but I don't seem to have any sound. I really enjoy this OS and I will recomend it to friends. I just wish my sound would work. I installed it on my desktop and I didn't have this problem but it would recognize the wi-fi card in the desktop. I like the OS better on my laptop anyway for work reason. I mistakenly went through the driver database app and I answered that I could hear when I really couldn't how do I restart the questionaire? How do I get my sound to work?

Try adding 'options snd-intel8x0 ac97_quirk=2' in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base too

Hello !

To open alsa-base with proper permissions, you can just type this in a terminal:
gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base

Could you launch this command:

and tell us what is selected
thanks

It has the autodetect selected for the audio output and the ALSA for the input. I changed them all and tested them and nothing happened. Thanks again for the help.

ok, try this, check if your personal user is in the "audio" group, run this from a terminal:

cat /etc/group|grep audio

you have to see if your user is in the output, like this: audio:x:29:mik,guest,mythtv (my user is 'mik')

then watch if you have this packages installed:

linux-sound-base
alsa-base
alsa-utils
libasound2
gstreamer0.10-alsa

tell me

I saw my user name after I entered that in the terminal but I didn't see any of those packages after it. It just said audio:x:29:sasquatch I'm really starting to feel dumb. I love Linux and I really want to learn this stuff. Thanks for being patient all you guys. I think we're getting there
