how to reinstall firefox to overwrite unwanted version

Asked by Dorothy Guyer

I had firefox 8 installed initially.

Thought I was adding to that and ended up with 3.5 generic even though it is foxfire when i use it.

How do I restore my original program that I accidentally replaced with the 3.5. Thanks!!!

I have also downloaded the 8.0 but I know how to change the web browser. I have worked with computers for 30 years and could fix most problems at work without calling the help desk. but i am not a programmer I was a registration clerk. Thanks

Please provide the output of this command, as actionparsnip has requested:

lsb_release -a; apt-cache policy firefox

Run this command in the Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T). After running it, select all the text in the Terminal (Edit > Select All), copy it to the clipboard (Edit > Copy), and paste it here.

Just copy and paste the command I gave into a terminal and hit ENTER, then copy the text which was output and paste here as an update. I am very sure you can do that....

Not yet. Run:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install firefox

You should now have firefox 8...

I just want to be as up to date as possible. The system was telling I had an old version.
