I went to you briefly to ask how to get the highlighter toolbar back on my Yahoo Mail page, and when I went back to Yahoo to get a code to get a new password, I checked and the long emial I'd been working on a long time was gone! I need it back badly

Asked by cynthia c whatley

I hate coming to you! The same thing happens every time! I explain it, and then a note tells me to rewrite a summery, but shorter! I shouldn't have to do that. I'm a detailed person. At some point yahoo made a change, and now there's no highlighter or way to change the color of your words to emphasise things! I've done different things to get it back, and can't. Can you?

Also, I went back to yahoo when you said to go back to get a code for me to be able to get a new password, and the long email I was writing was gone! I never ended the email to talk to you about highlighting, I expected a window to pop up, and I'd ask a question and a live person would answer it! I want Yahoo or you to give me the letter/email back! I can't rewrite it! It took an hour!!

There's nothing for me to reply to! You never answered my simple questions, as usual!

"There's nothing for me to reply to! You never answered my simple questions, as usual!"

You just replied to an automated notification, which emailed you the text of your question. That does indeed happen every time you post a question on Launchpad. But there was no *person* sending you back the text of your question. Launchpad sends that to you so that you have a record of all the correspondence on your question, including the original question itself.

"I explain it, and then a note tells me to rewrite a summery, but shorter!"

I have no idea what you're referring to, so perhaps you could give an example of this. However, it is true that your question's summary (that is, the *title* of your question; this is in contrast to your question's description, i.e., the *body* of your question) is very, very long, such that many people who might otherwise be able to help you would likely simply skip over it in frustration.

Making your summaries shorter does not remove information from your question, unless there is information in your summary that is not also in the question's description.

Also, you do not have to make your summary shorter. If you don't, then it might reduce the likelihood that people will help you, or an answer contact might just rewrite the summary for you. But no one is forcing you to rewrite it.

Since these meta-issues are separate from the actual computer problem you're posting about, I'm going to submit this post and then post again to try to help you with your problem.

You said that "a note" tells you to rewrite the summary. I had thought you were saying that you were receiving correspondence asking you to rewrite the summary.

But I think I understand what you mean now. I apologize for the confusion.

There is a maximum length for a summary, and if your summary initially exceeds it, then the Launchpad website will tell you to rewrite it before it allows you to submit your question. It had not occurred to me that this was what was happening, because it had not occurred to me that anyone could exceed that length, except by accident. In general, if your summary is longer than a good title for an essay, paper, or book, then your summary is far too long. A summary is a title, not an abstract.

Since this post of mine is a follow-up on my previous post, I'll submit it, *then* post to try to help you with your Yahoo! mail problem.

Are you using Yahoo! Mail from inside your web browser, or are you accessing it with an application like Evolution or Thunderbird?

"At some point yahoo made a change, and now there's no highlighter or way to change the color of your words to emphasise things! I've done different things to get it back, and can't. Can you?"

If you're accessing Yahoo! Mail from inside your web browser, then this is an issue with the Yahoo! web interface, and is not likely to be related to Ubuntu. In that case, this forum is not a good place to try to get help with that--instead, you should use the resources at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/helpcentral/.

"Also, I went back to yahoo when you said to go back to get a code for me to be able to get a new password,"

Who said that? Remember, there is more than one person on Launchpad who provides support. More background information about this situation is necessary.

"and the long email I was writing was gone! I never ended the email to talk to you about highlighting, I expected a window to pop up, and I'd ask a question and a live person would answer it! I want Yahoo or you to give me the letter/email back! I can't rewrite it! It took an hour!!"

This assumes you were composing the email in Yahoo! Mail in your web browser, but if you were using some other application like Evolution or Thunderbird, please let me know.

If you sent the email by accident before it was finished, then it is probably in your Outbox or Sent Mail folder. If you didn't send it but didn't delete it, then it is probably in your Drafts folder. If you did delete it, then you are probably out of luck, but you might check in your Trash folder. (You can also search for text that is in that email, in your email's search box, and that might help you find it.)

Can you help with this problem?
