Bookmarks toolbar does not show a single bookmark.

Are you sure you have bookmarks?

try removing your profile folder (inside .mozilla/profile at your /home/user/ directory) and restarting Firefox, then create some bookmarks.

You should have the bookmarks toolbar active in the toolbars area, of course...
