mp3 decoders?

while trying to play mp3 files == an error message appears saying certain decoder files are needed for Totem to play mp3s but no further location for the files is given...where can these files be obtained?

Floyd,

You need to enable multiverse, and then install the libxine-extracodecs package. The link that Mark posted above can help you out with getting them installed. If you are familiar with Synaptics (gnome) or Adept (KDE), you can enable multiverse in there, or you can uncomment the lines located in your /etc/apt/source.list file. If you do the latter portion with the sources.list file, just make sure you 'sudo apt-get update' afer editing it. Then you should be able to select the libxine-extracodecs via Synaptics or Adept, or even by issuing at the command line 'sudo apt-get install libxine-extracodecs'. Hope some of this helps you out. Yes resolved--looking forward to new Ubuntu manual due out in stores
soon...so I can become wiser in the use of this amazing OS...

Awesome Floyd. I am glad everything is working for you now, and I am waiting for that book as well. The writers are great people.
