Working for me. Have you got realplayer installed?

See Medibuntu: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu
Add the repository, then "sudo aptitude install realplay"

Hi,

If the mediaplayerconnectivity addon for Firefox is enabled, then make sure to disable it first.

Then open a Terminal and enter the following commands:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install libtotem-plparser12 totem totem-common totem-mozilla totem-plugins totem-xine xine-plugin xine-ui libxine1-misc-plugins

Then close all instances of Firefox and restart Firefox.

Navigate to http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html?param=public

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

Since a while (assume beginning of the year) it also doesn't play anymore within firefox on Hardy.
But - there are several options to play live broadcast with Totem or VLC.
e.g. a right click on the embedded video window should offer to play with video player.
In fact no need to open firefox to watch NASAtv when using the plain URL from 'Other viewing options'.
e.g. right click and copy URL, then open Totem -> ctrl+L will present the URL, then click open and it plays the live stream.
In the dropdown of the sidebar choose playlist, the entry can be saved as .pls to a folder.
Hope you enjoy the landing on friday.

Try with gstreamer plugins, search for gstreamer in Synaptic, install what seems relevant, also 'bad' and 'ugly'.
apt-cache search in Hardy e.g.
#gstreamer0.10-plugins-good - GStreamer plugins from the "good" set
#gstreamer0.10-plugins-base - GStreamer plugins from the "base" set
#gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad - GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set
#gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly - GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set
#libgstreamer0.10-0 - Core GStreamer libraries and elements
#totem-mozilla - Totem Mozilla plugin

Hi Bob,

I see a typo there.

The first command is

sudo aptitude update

The second command - all in a single line - is

sudo aptitude install libtotem-plparser12 totem totem-common totem-mozilla totem-plugins totem-xine xine-plugin xine-ui libxine1-misc-plugins

Please copy-paste the first command into the Terminal, press <enter>, copy-paste the second command into the terminal, press <enter>.

Regards,

Mark

Thanks but my copy opens the url, buffers and then sits there. Blank. Doing
nothing. <g>

I can also right click the TV image on the nasa site and choose to open it
with the media player. I try that and the same thing happens.

Hi Bob,

First make sure to enable the medibuntu repositories (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu)

Install vlc player and w32codecs with the following commands:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install vlc w32codecs

Then open vlc. In vlc player, click on Media, then on "open network"

Copy-paste the following into the address field:

http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx

Click on Play.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

Thanks Mark I am able to watch it with the VLC player now. Even if I should be answering phones or writing proposals. <g>

I still don't understand why it will not play inside the player on the site though. Any thoughts?

Thanks to all!!!

Bob.
