Hi,

Unfortunately, I am afraid you don't give enough info to get valuable help. Your question is tagged "firefox", do you mean that you have a problem with the password saving system in firefox? Or do you refer to the user password of your account?

Wow that looks good but there's a gui way for people that need gui's

System menu on the top taskbar - Administrator - Users & Groups (at the very bottom)

In the pop-up box root is greyed out but click on it and then click the 'Unlock' button.
Now type in the Users password rather than the root.
Click on 'root user' again now it's not greyed out and type in the new root password in the bottom 2 boxes.

Err if instead the problem is with your Launchpad password then just try logging in in a different window and admit to haveing forgotten your password. Then next-time you check your emails a new temporary one should have been issued to you or they may ask a security question first. That's the way many website passwords work so i'm hoping it's not your email accounts password that you've forgotten ;)

Good luck decyphering all this

Hi Tom, and no Tom, there is no GUI way.
The idea behind this way is that nobody can do that from a remote site and get the MS kind of security problems in the process.

Your solution (send the password to a e-mail account) may work In the case of home computers with Internet access, but not in the case of standalone computers without Internet access or systems with some security needs (i.e. networked computers). Even more, I don't think it is a good idea at all (but it is my opinion only).

If you don't want this kind of security, you can always assign a weak password, one that you cannot forget (your name for example), but the system allows you to get a better security solution and try to protect your data.
Hope this helps, let me know.

lol, i just write my passwords down on a piece of paper that no-one can access through the internet. Sometimes i use temporary passwords (and then forget to change them later)

Good luck with this :)

That link looks great though. There were a number of people with password problems yesterday. I'll pass the link on if someone doesn't beat me to it ;)

Thanks Ariel, i needed that :)

jeje Tom, you're always welcomed.

I completely misunderstood your first message, sorry.
I read it so quickly that I can't see the two scenarios presented by you (it seems like my English doesn't support this kind of speed, or maybe my brain).
Anyway, if peters cannot remember his password, he cannot unlock the pop up box and cannot reestablish any password, the way you suggested works OK to change anyone else's password.
Please Tom, still using the papers to avoid the Internet access to your passwords and don't forget to change it frequently.
Good luck, I also needed that.

If you are still having trouble with this then please post it as a new question. Only the most recent questions tend to get looked at so posting/reposting a question just before america arrives online gives the best chance of getting a good few answers.

If the problem has been resolved then please follow the link to the forum thread and mark it as Solved.

Good luck and many regards from
Tom :)

Can you help with this problem?
