Application Icon on task bar

Asked by MiltonR

I' running Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) and would like to see all running application icon show on the task bar, which I have place at the bottom of my screen.
What the task bar shows me now is three menus, Applications, Places, System. In addition, it shows to the right of the menus, the following icons: Firefox, Evolution, and Help. Next, again from left to right, is the Windows Selector icon. Instead of this icon I would like to see an icon for every application I have currently running.

right click your task bar (indeed, we call it panel), choose "add to panel..."; on a dialog pop up, choose ... (these dots should be applet manager or some kind. Why not try everything, if it's not the right thing, right click it, then choose "remove"), then "close".

Hello MiltonR,

If you want to create a new panel for this, right click on the remaining panel, choose "new panel" and on this panel right click, "Add to panel" and add "Windows list" (or something like that) to this panel. You can then move in by a right click on the 3 horizontal bars appearing in it, and "move" choose where you want to put it, click to release and you can then lock it by right clicking on it and choose the right option.

Hope that it helps you.

To see what applications you have running usually is displayed on the bottom panel. There should be a "Desktop" icon and next to it a vertical double dotted line. If that dotted line is missing, you can add it via a right click on the panel, then "Add to Panel", select "Windows List" and press "Add".
Any items on the bottom panel that you want to have on the top panel instead you can drag and drop to their new location.
Lock them into position when finished.

If you want to remove the "window list", right click it, choose "Remove from Panel".

I have right clicked all over the bar and the only menu coming up is the one that goes to the ICONS Even a left click gets NOTHING . . I updated from 10.10 and miss the bar at bottom to close windows or know how many are open . . And EVERY time I open something it tries to replace the bar on the left hand side WHY ? I have to slide it over to get to something else . . Major pain in the butt to have to move something EVERY TIME . . Either the bar is there or it is not !
