Firefox crashes if I try to open more than 2 windows at the same time

Asked by marmaladejackson

Running Firefox 3.0 on an Ubuntu 8.04 AMD 64 platform. Whenever I try to launch more than 2 windows, FF turns grey and eventually crashes. Any suggestions?

Firefox 3.0 is very new package still its on the way to get standardized. Need to wait till we get patches to fix all bugs..

I've had this same problem with FF 2 on Ubuntu 6.06 on x86. I switched to using Epiphany as a result and totally forgot about it, then recently I switched back to FF (having long since forgotten the reason I stopped using it) after a full clean install (apart from my home directory) of 8.04 and discovered that the problem remains.

If I get a chance I'll try stracing FF and see if there's anything obviously bad going on.

I actually figured it out. The google toolbar plugin was the culprit. Once I disabled that, no more crashes.

Thanks, that was the problem for me too. Just disabling the Google Toolbar wasn't enough in my case: I had to actually uninstall it.
