ext4 indexation?

Asked by tashi

Hi everyone,

I'd simply like to know what the indexing may be useful to with an ext4 file system? I suppose it could accelerate files searches, but may it however render much slower the file access?

Thanks to please tell it to me, I'm presently worrying about it ever I should set it to on onto my computer!

There are tools to index files to make file search faster, but those are not at the filesystem level, they are desktop applications and only accelerate searches made by you in a search panel, not all file access operations.

This has been wrongly assigned to "findutils" for answering. Can tashi please clarify what area he is asking about by detailing how he would "set [indexing] to on onto my computer". If we know how he's considering doing that then the implications of doing it could be explained.
