acer 5535 graphics problem

Asked by pat.dervey

hello all, l have installed ubuntu 8.10 using wubi on my new acer aspire 5535 amd turon laptop it apparently uses an ati radeon hd3200 graphics card, l can not enable any visual effects other than the base level ones, l want to get better performance than this out of this install , l tried going into system/admin/hardware drivers and using the recommended ati/amd proprietary fglrx driver that shows in the list,(its the only one there) however you can not tick the radio button to select it although it seems highlighted already and when l click enable it seems to try and download the said file for about 3 seconds but then does nothing and the driver will not enable leaving me with no option but to continue with base level graphics, can anyone help me with this problem and in simple english talk me through solving this, l am new to ubuntu and finding the whole experience a little difficult to sort out
thanks everyone
patrick

Have updated your system??
I have the same graphic card and tried everything but when I update the system I tried again through hardware drivers and it installed it

Enjoy Ubuntu
