Slow opening windows

Closing windows is smoothly and fast, but opening stopping rendering for a few seconds.
I'm starting fgl_glxgears in console and open-close any window, while in console output was:
24 frames in 6.0 seconds = 4.000 FPS
36 frames in 6.0 seconds = 6.000 FPS

Video - ATI Radeon HD3400. System - Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
xserver-xorg 1:7.5+3ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.7.6~git20100321+server-1.7-bran

I read about the nobackfill patch for xorg, but now exists only 1.6.x branch of xorg with this patch in ppa repositories. I don't try to build xorg 1.7.x.

Question: Can I fix it?

The ATi proprietary driver doesn't support xorg 7.5 which is default in Lucid. You will mosdt likely be using the opensource radeon driver instead of the frglrx driver which will give full 3D accelleration.

This is entirely the fault of ATi. Nvidia do not have this issue and easily keep up without a hitch.
