View animated pictures in Ubuntu 9.4

Hi again :)

If you mean viewing a series of jpeg images as a slideshow then i use "F-Spot"

To install just use Synaptic Package Manager
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticHowto
and search for "f-spot". Note that Synaptic is good because you can use the search button to look for things even if you don't know the name of the title of the thing you are looking for. It searches throught the descriptions as well as the titles so you can be fairly vague and stil get good results!

as it has links to some commonly used apps in different categories and compares the name to Windows names which you might still be more familiar with or have heard of more often.

not really what I'm looking for.
I've got some pictures that I've seen on PhotoBucket that are animated (eg. water moving, butterflies flying, etc), I've downloaded them into a folder, but I would like to view them as animated on my system.

Are they ".gif"s? I have just had a look to try to configure F-Spot to do the slideshow faster but there's not much it can do by the looks of it. Sorry about that :(

yip, they're in .gif - not to worry. Will find something sooner or later. It's not a major issue yet. still got time to figure it out before I'm actually going to start using the pics as backgrounds for my latest project - digital scrapbooking in Ubuntu using GIMP.

Still not really what I'm looking for. I think this one is going to be a tough one to solve. ;-)

I would like to put a photo onto the background but still have the animation of the original pic. But it's okay.

Someone suggested I try gthumbs - it was exactly what I wanted.

Got it in Synaptic. Searched it in Synaptic, marked for installation and all done.
It'll be in Applications ---> Graphics after that.

Just doing my little bit for Ubuntu after Ubuntu saved me from throwing my laptop against a wall while I was still running Windows LOL. ;-)

Lol. I try and remember to go back to my questions and either explain how I got it solved or just to check that open questions are solved.
Sometimes I forget about it when my 3yo daughter starts playing Ubuntu games - she's a total SuperTux-addict!!

Aww that's sweeet. There are a whole load of websites that would really appreciate an quick article about "Linux is so easy even my 3year old is happy with it". Perhaps it'd even make a good story for a local newspaper or something. Just phone the local paper's editor or someone and get a reporter to pop over by telling them you have a great story for them.

I think Linux needs a lot more publicity because so many people hear such a load of nonsense about linux being tough and geeky. Ubuntu and many others have made it really easy nowadays, for most things. Yet still there's a lot of people think they wont be able to cope and Microsquish keeps spreading FUD around to stop people from daring to try it.

No pressure tho ;) lol

you've got a good thing going there. As is I'm doing digital scrapbooking (using GIMP) as a small business.
From next week I've got about 5 teenagers coming for a crash-course on Ubuntu. They want the programs that my 16 yo son brags about.

Hopefully by the time I'm done, Linux with have a few more users. LOL

Wow!! There a very real opportunity to get some free advertising for your business! In marketing/advertising i've heard that it is best to get one article in the local rag every month. If you keep a copy of all the printed articles (with a date stamp) in a folder then applying for funding and/or approaching bank-managers and such like becomes much more likely to succeed.

The trick is to avoid giving the reporter the whole story all at once. Break it down into sections so that each month there's something 'new' to report. Getting an article in the newspaper is free whereas paying for advertising space can be expensive. People tend not to read the adverts but often do read articles lol

Another about a lady using linux (gosh - a shocker, a woman running a business, oops another article? ;) ) Another about "3yr old enjoys linux". Hmmm , i wonder if there's a chance to get your som in the papaers too? - perhaps as an early article might be best? Also getting the reporter to take appropriate photos dramatically increases the chance of the article being read.

I really hope you have fun with all this because it can be great fun. Almost a new game in it's own right. How to avoid the reporter from puttin in throw-away lines that could be used as an entire article with a bit of fleshing-out. I don't know maybe you already do all this anyway? Perhaps getting a first article in the press would make a good school project for your son?

I've already started my research, papers, phonecalls, footwork. Have
started writing articles etc. And all with Linux. There's hope for us yet.
