F-Spot works fine for me but not for another user (an important user).

Asked by lee

For at least one user F-Spot does not launch upon inserting media and fails to launch manually--returning an error referencing 'mono.data.sqliteclient.sqlitesyntaxexception'. If I su to my login from the other user's login in a terminal window, "su - lee", I can not open F-Stop either! That was a real surprise. The other user has additional problems as well, including system freezes, that I do not experience. (OS=Ubuntu)

You should provide more information about the system the two users have.

> If I su to my login from the other user's login in a terminal window, "su - lee", I can not open F-Stop either!

You need permission from the X desktop to open fspot or any GUI/desktop application, a simple "su - lee" won't do it. I don't know the exact way, but maybe it's easier to control them through Vinagre VNC (Applications > Internet > Remote desktop viewer). You can enable it on the other user through System > Preferences > Remote Desktop.

1) Are we talking about the same machine here? Same Ubuntu installation, with two (or more) users? Or are you using ssh to remotely login to the other user machine?
2) Which version of Ubuntu are you and the other user using?
3) Did you upgrade from a previous release or is this a clean install of Ubuntu?
4) Did you install Ubuntu using Wubi (Windows installer) or on its own partition (booted using the Ubuntu desktop live cd)?

1) Are we talking about the same machine here? Same Ubuntu installation, with two (or more) users? Or are you using ssh to remotely login to the other user machine?
Answer -- Same machine. Users do not access the machine remotely.

2) Which version of Ubuntu are you and the other user using?
Answer -- Ubuntu 8.04

3) Did you upgrade from a previous release or is this a clean install of Ubuntu?
Answer -- I've done several fresh installs and upgrades since Ubuntu 6.06. I think this was a clean install.

4) Did you install Ubuntu using Wubi (Windows installer) or on its own partition (booted using the Ubuntu desktop live cd)?
Answer -- Live CD. This is the only OS installed. Keeping this as my only OS seems to hinge on correcting this problem.

- Login as that user and try run this command:
f-spot-sqlite-upgrade

- What kind of media are you trying to open with f-spot? Can you upload the image in question somewhere?(http://rapidshare.com, http://xs.to, http://imageshack.us, etc)?

- Have you tried other photo managers? Applications > Add/Remove...
Search for: photo
Among them there are gthumb, kphotoalbum, album shaper, flphoto etc

Can you help with this problem?

Provide an answer of your own, or ask lee for more information if necessary.
