resizing and downsizing pics on f-spot

Asked by Eldon L Mello Jr

Hi there,

I guess it's needless to say I'm a newbie at ubuntu and stuff. You can tell by my question:

I would like to post a picture to my launchpad profile but it requires a 192x192 picture of 100kb in size. I just tried cropping it manually in f-spot but couldn't match the requirements.

My question is, is it possible to specify such requirements and have f-spot resizing and downsizing it automatically? If not, is there another software which does so?

Thanks in advance,

Eldon.

A powerful piece of software that may or may not work for you is the GIMP, found in the repositories:

apt://gimp

Right click on the picture you want to edit and open it with the GIMP. Use the "Scale" tool (found in the left panel that opens - you can also bring up the dialog with SHIFT+T). Here you can enter exact pixel sizes.

It has to be under 100 kb, so you probably will want to save the picture as a .jpg when you're done with it. The "quality" slider that will be presented to you on can usually go down to 75 before anything is noticeable.

I forgot to add. Once you're done resizing the photo, you'll need to crop it. Using the crop tool (Shift+C), select the area of the picture that you want kept. You can actively work on the crop selection before it's final. You may scroll in via Control + or control+mouse wheel if needed. Press Enter when you have the right selection and it will be cropped for you.

Let me know if this works for you.
